Pennsbury High School in Falls Township, Pennsylvania, was placed on a secure hold Monday morning after the district received a reported threat that authorities are investigating as a possible swatting incident. Officials confirmed that the school later transitioned to asynchronous virtual instruction for the day as a precaution while law enforcement completed safety procedures.
According to the Pennsbury School District, the threat was received shortly before 8 a.m. and originated from a California-based phone number. The caller allegedly claimed to be en route to Pennsbury East High School with a firearm and explosive device. District officials stated that similar calls were reported at other high schools across the county, suggesting a coordinated hoax.
Law enforcement responded immediately, and the school was placed under a secure hold, a protocol used when a potential threat is identified outside the building. Officials emphasized that this differs from a lockdown, which is implemented when there is an immediate threat inside a school.
As a result of the disruption, high school students were relocated to designated safe areas, including Charles Boehm Middle School, while transportation and pickup procedures were adjusted throughout the morning. Students were later released in stages, with specific pickup locations designated at Pennsbury East High School facilities.
District officials confirmed that police will conduct a full search of the campus before normal in-person instruction resumes. They also stated that, at this time, the threat is believed to be a hoax, though the investigation remains active.
