Robert Lee Urchike, a devoted family man, respected educator, and cherished member of his community, passed away at the age of 84. His life, defined by dedication to education, service, and family, leaves behind a lasting legacy that continues to resonate with all who knew him.

Born on June 20, 1941, in Flint, Michigan, to Audrey and Ella Urchike, Robert built a life centered on learning and mentorship. A graduate of Beecher High School, he went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Central Michigan University and later obtained a master’s degree from Arizona State University. His academic journey laid the foundation for a career that would impact generations of students.

Robert dedicated more than three decades to teaching and coaching, serving at Beecher High School in Michigan and Marcos de Niza High School in Arizona. In the classroom and on the field, he was known for his commitment to student growth, mentorship, and the encouragement he provided to young people navigating their formative years. His influence extended far beyond academics, shaping character and confidence in countless individuals.

Outside of his professional life, Robert found joy in the outdoors as a professional bass fisherman, embracing both the competitive spirit and peaceful nature of the sport. Yet, his greatest pride was always his family. He shared a lifelong partnership with his wife, Patricia Kay Terry, whom he married in 1963, and remained a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Robert will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering support for those around him. His legacy lives on through his family and the many lives he touched throughout his years of service.

Visitation and funeral services are expected to be held in May, with details to be announced by the family. In his memory, donations may be made to Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
