Authorities in Nakhon Sawan province are investigating a fatal domestic incident in Phai Sali district that resulted in the death of a 38-year-old man, identified as Natthaphon, following a confrontation inside a family residence on May 2, 2026.
According to police reports, the incident occurred in Ban Takrut Phiban village after officers were dispatched in response to reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, investigators discovered the victim inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and arm. A knife was also found in his right hand, and eight spent 9mm shell casings were recovered at the scene, indicating multiple rounds had been discharged.
The suspected shooter, a 64-year-old retired police captain and the victim’s father, remained at the scene and surrendered voluntarily to authorities. He later confirmed his identity and relationship to the victim and handed over a registered 9mm firearm, which was previously issued during his service and legally kept at the residence.
Investigators reported that the incident followed a heated family dispute allegedly involving financial demands. Authorities stated the victim had a history of drug-related issues and prior arrests, and that tensions within the household had escalated in the hours leading up to the shooting. Witnesses described hearing an argument followed by rapid gunfire, with a relative fleeing the home to seek assistance.
The father told investigators he acted in self-defense, stating, “If I hadn’t done it, he would have killed me,” describing the shooting as occurring during an immediate perceived threat.
Neighbors described the retired officer as generally calm, while noting that the victim had reportedly caused repeated disturbances when seeking money.
The suspect has been detained and initially charged with murder as the investigation continues. Authorities are reviewing physical evidence and witness statements to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
